Do you know what exactly determines whether a perfume is masculine or feminine? Usually, you can tell by the shape of the bottle or the packaging, but if you could only smell it, for example when you walk past one of those spraying people in a perfume outlet, how do you know? Some fragrances are unisex, particularly the Calvin Klein ones for example, but what about the ones that are actually designed specifically which ones are for men and which ones are for women? Next time you go to a perfume outlet, bring a blindfold and have some fun with your friends! Men were historically classed as not caring much about perfume. They would - at a push - use a fragrant after shave, preferable Old Spice, but this was used more to cool their skin than to make them smell nice. Nowadays, however, men are much more concerned with their outer appearance and besides using foundation to hide their imperfections, they also use perfumes. So really, the amount of perfume brands for males and females is about equal. Now all you need to do is find out which one is which!
The first thing you need to think about when you walk into any perfume outlet is why you are there. Who are you shopping for? Is it for yourself? If not, is it for a man or woman? And what age are they? One of the most important questions you need to ask yourself before all of those, however, is what that person looks for in a scent. Are they highly fashionable and do they want a scent that is the latest of a special designer, or do they want it because they like to smell good, regardless of the price tag or designer label? If they care about the name of the perfume, your shopping trip in the perfume outlet will be quick and simple. Just walk over to the nearest rack and you will find that this holds the latest model of the latest fashionable designer. Pick the right gender and you're done.
However, it is far more fun to find a perfume that actually suits the person and this is where the blindfold comes in. Do bring some friends along, because you know the saying "you break it you buy it", and if you're walking through a store blindfolded, you are sure to break a couple of things. Take the time to actually smell the different scents - on your skin not on a piece of paper (perfume needs body heat to start working) and find the perfume that you think is most suitable for the person you are buying it for. Once you have picked it, open your eyes and see what you have got. You may be surprised to find that it is the "wrong" gender!
