How is your skin? Is it bright and clean? A little dull? Dry? Do you have break outs or red patches?
Avoid the said situations entirely by embracing the virtues of skin care we are imparting to you.
Hand-off
The act of touching your face with your fingers brings pore-clogging oil, dirt and bacteria to the skin. Some morning drive might tempt you to squeeze that pimple, but stop yourself from doing so. How not to pop? Get rid of magnifying mirrors, put "Don't touch" Post-it notes around the house, and grab a squeeze toy to keep your hands busy. If there are times when you do give in, applying over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream right away can help calm inflammation and prevent long-lasting marks.
Visit Your Derm (At least twice annually)
To have a dermatologist check your body once or twice a year is crucial because they have significantly higher accuracy in identifying abnormal skin growths than primary care physicians. Even if you're diligent about monthly self-exams on your skin, they are still the best to determine what are worrisome and which are harmless. For convenience, it is best if you group your annual appointments (physical, mammogram, dermatologist) at a time of (relative) quiet—after the holidays, or when the kids go back to school. And before you leave the doctor's clinic, make an appointment for next year, put a reminder in your phone, and ask the receptionist to follow up. You're doing your self a favor in preventing melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, is the third most common cancer in women ages 20 to 39, so book your skin screening now.
TLC on Your Hands
To keep both nails and hands from dehydrating, avoid using plain antibacterial gels and instead choose moisturizing versions. And do the same with soaps. To furhter protection and care, keep SPF hand cream throughout your house because just like the face, hands are exposed ot harmful rays daily and need ample coverage. Even if you are under a UV-protective auto glass, damaging rays penetrate, and they will age your hands. At night, you can do a handful of skin care by rubbing hands with a rich alpha hydroxy acid lotion—it's too thick for day—and if the skin is chapped, go for mega hydrating moisturizer.
