Perfumes are very personal products. There is not one product that will be loved by everyone, each person will have his or her own preference when it comes to the fragrances he or she will wear on different occasions. But, really, what do perfumes tell us about the people who wear them? Can you really classify a person by the scent they leave? Well, even if there really is no scientific yardstick for measuring this, experience tells us that yes, we can definitely tell a lot of things about a person just by the way he or she smells. Or at least we can make pretty general assumptions.
While some people use perfumes for a purpose, like a man wearing a more musky cologne on the third date, or a woman using a more subtle scent in the office, most people stick to two or three bottles of perfume. Often we can even tell if a person is approaching, even if we do not see them, by sniffing their favorite cologne in the air. So let us talk about personalities and perfumes. A man's man, the classic masculine image, you know, the guy who loves ball games, cars and various other sports. You would often smell a heavy and manly scent on them. You will rarely get a whiff of citrus or sweet smells, what you will most often smell is a full on, frontal attack of earthy, musky and heavy scents. This is because a man like that wants to smell, well, like a man. While some of the more modern, fashion conscious men want a subtler, more intimate smell and are not afraid to experiment with fruit or flowery scents. But with these kinds of men, subtlety is the key, you will rarely be able to smell them from a mile away, but they want you to get closer and be surprised.
Women, on the other hand, have more varying tastes in fragrances then men. A Girly girl can both have an adult smelling bottle of perfume and an everyday, sweet smelling bottle of cologne in her repertoire of perfumes. Most of them prefer to use scents for specific purposes. So you know a woman is going to an important interview if she smells nice, but not too aggressive, or to a night of painting the town red if you smell a more flirtatious and seductive scent. When it comes to perfumes, we all have different favorites and it all boils down to how we react to different kinds of smells. We associate different things with different smells and this is why we all have very unique and eclectic tastes when it comes to our perfume preferences.
