As Summer begins to fade and Autumn appears on the horizon, the catwalks are aglow with the coming season's pieces, inspired - as ever - by nature.
From furs and leathers to snakeskin and crocodile effect, we've seen it all on the runways this season, and never more so than in the bold offerings of handbags crafted by some of the world's most renowned designers. Jimmy Choo, Burberry and Nancy Gonzalez drew attention with their reptilian creations which proudly made use of crocodile and alligator skin, while Reed Krakoff, Anya Hindmarch, and Halston Heritage all used snakeskin to fantastic effect.
Leading the charge for fur fashion was undoubtedly Valentino, whose bow bag featured beautiful fur trim, along with Yves Saint Laurent who made us of fox fur on their suede leather shoulder bag. Shearling made a bold appearance too, lining the creations of Jas MB and Christian Dior, while Miu Miu brought a little colour on to the scene with their fabulously bright neon faux fur pieces.
Mulberry kept leopard print classy on their Leo Scotchgrain tote, but rest assured that this accessory's penchant for a more striking aesthetic is maintained in Vivienne Westwood's Yasmin tote and Iron Fist's eye-catching Wolfbeater printed piece. But if this isn't quite your style, then fear not: Michael Kors has the perfect antidote in his cheetah in calf hair tote.
Meanwhile, clutch bags and purses have undergone a makeover to reveal their animal instincts too, perfectly demonstrated by DKNY's leopard print in calf hair purse, Alexander McQueens Leopard Pony Skull Charm Wallet, and Dorothy Perkins' bold dome frame purse. Go vintage with Sara Berman's Emma animal print clutch, or opt for ocelot print with Dolce & Gabbana's pochette.
But it's not just the humble handbag receiving special attention this season: animal prints found their way onto favourite footwear styles too, with Lanvin, Alaïa, and French Sole all revealing ballerina flats inspired by nature. Brogues proved popular too, with creations by Miu Miu and Louboutin featuring zebra and leopard effects, while Rick Owens and Sacai stole the show with a burlesque inspired performance which showed off their bountiful feathered ankle adornments, heels, and wedges.
Keeping the chill off in the cooler evenings are a host of light scarves and stoles, from the must-have Prada fox fur stole to the elegant wool and cashmere-blend creation by Yves Saint Laurent, while animal-infused designs made their presence known in Emma Fielden's cow tone hat in rabbit hair with a wide, floppy brim. Jewellery, meanwhile, brought feathers back on trend with Chanel's ‘All The Midnight In The World' multi tonal earrings necklaces.
