Stuhrling Original, a company with roots dating back to to the 1800s, makes more than watches today. It makes timepieces that are a continuation of accuracy Swiss watch-making started four years ago.
Stuhrling watches were part of the historic Swiss watch-making era, when names like Phillipe and Perrelet, Breguet Girard-Perregaux, LeCoultre were coming on the scene. Also part of that world was Max Stuhrling, a "silent protege" of Jules-Louis Audemars, a famous watchmaker who later joined forces with Edward-Auguste Piguet and produced the well-known watch company Audemars Piguet.
Stuhrling was obviously a grasp of complicated watches - those with perpetual calendars, moon period signs and chronographs. He was allegedly an unknown genius working in obscurity, making the greatest and most precise movements for a few of the most famous watchmakers of the time.
Like many ghost workers, Stuhrling grew bitter and disappointed. It bothered him that only wealthy aristocrats could afford his multi-complicated watches. Neither Stuhrling nor the average working man of the day can afford such magnificent pieces. In fact, the price of the watches Stuhrling made was nearly the equivalent of a working man's annual income. In his frustration, Stuhrling broke his hand - a potentially career-ending injury for anyone who did such specific and complex work and once got right into a brawl with certainly one of his partners. But Stuhrling was unconcerned. Unknown to his companions, Stuhrling had educated his 11-year-old son, Max, Jr., to occupy the family business.
Stuhrling's side eventually healed, but his sense of indignation did not. He died before he made 50, a pauper never getting the full reward for his master. The watch case is available in gold-tone, rose-tone or silver-tone. The call of this watch includes a completely skeletonized Tourbillon design and luminous blue hour and minute hands. The situation has a rounded coin-edged push and pull top with cabochon at 12:00. It features an exhibition back with the etched limited edition number (out of 111) for every of the three color options. The color of the circular dial is unique with each shade choice: gold-tone for the gold-tone situation, gunmetal for the rose-tone case and silver-tone for the silver-tone case.
