With the New Year comes new styles – to be precise, it seems as though with every new day there is a new ‘in' hair style! While it is easy to change your style, wearing an up do, adopting a fringe – a more dramatic change and style update is the colour experiment. 2011 saw the introduction of dip-dying and appreciation of the roots, but what will 2012 bring? Be prepared, and find out how here.
We have to thank celebrities such as Avril Lavigne and Kate Bosworth for bringing bright hues into our lives. Stepping out in 2011 with daring tones and shades, the look seems to be staying for next year with obvious streaks and bright dyes. Why not experiment with a wash-out look? Bright colours are certainly a good way to demolish the dull darkness of winter.
Why not get a bit more continental with your style? Stepping over the border and into French territory, the Ombre style has been popping up on the red carpet of late, and again, is a look that's set to stay. The translation of Ombre is ‘shaded like a gradient' – which is perhaps a bit of an exaggerated term! For 2012, bring Ombre to the style stakes by allowing your dark roots to grow to the ear and shading the ends a lighter tint. Make sure this is done gradually to keep the look natural and not too forced.
Hair styles are like anything in their cycle – what goes around certainly does come back around. 2007 saw the introduction of the ‘Bronde' hair colour, the perfect shade between blonde and brunette, originally made famous by Gisele.
Going blonde is one of those things that most people have to do, and sample it at least once in their lives. While it is a scary change, it definitely pays off, as the blonder the better! As the years have passed, platinum blonde has become a much more appreciated hair colour, no longer with negative connotations, and this time only provoking thoughts of haute-couture and high fashion.
Maintaining platinum blonde does require effort, and is damaging for some hair types, so it is always important to get a professional consultation before going blonde. If the look may not be for you, it is always possible and chic to go one or two shades lighter than the natural colour.
