Tips On How To Get Shiny Hair

Author: Deckard Parker

Everybody wants to get that shiny hair you see on the catwalks and in all the shampoo and conditioner commercials. For some people it's harder than others to get shiny locks because of a variety of possible factors. Sometimes it's just genetic as a person's oil producing glands are active enough to produce some kinds of oils. Other times diet, stress and hormonal changes can come into play, wrecking havoc with strand health internally and thus also externally. If you've tried every conditioner product out there and it still hasn't been effective then it may be due to the chemicals or specific formula that isn't doing it for you type of hair. Trying some of the steps below might be able to give you healthier, shiner and tougher hair.

  • Avoid harsh treatments and poor conditions: Many times if conditioners aren't working for you then it's because there is being damage constantly being done to it that reverses the healing effects of the product. Avoid rooms with high heat, thermal curling treatments and brushing hair too hard or using a rough brush. Using gentle brushes from something like natural bristles and tying up hair to preserve moisture when in a heated room will minimise damage from these activities. Heat styling should only be complete once a month at most.
  • Trimming ends periodically: Whilst it might seem like a daunting prospect, cutting hair is sometimes necessary to maintain hair health and strength. Split ends make hair look frizzy and dull and cutting them will curb their impact and effect as well as making sure that hair grows out in a healthy way.
  • Use a natural conditioning treatment: Natural treatments are usually more intense and moisturise a lot more intensively than chemical products. Applying fresh is best. One popular mixture that many people use consists of about three egg yolks with half a cup of olive oil mixed in. Lather your hair with it using fingers to spread it evenly across all your strands. Avoid touching your scalp, especially if you are prone to oiliness because putting oil on an oily scalp will lead to blockages and clogging the skin layer. Rinse out only with cold water, hot water will cook the egg which you don't want. This treatment sounds bit funny but it actually works along the basic principles of most commercial hair care products. The egg yolk contains lots of protein that help strengthen the internal hair structure. The oil moisturises hair to get that shiny look and repels heat and dehydration damage.
  • Eat healthy: When hair grows out of the scalp it is basically unaffected by your eating and drinking efforts. However, as hair is first forming from beneath the scalp, it draws from the proteins in the cells around it. If your diet is well balanced with fruit, meat and vegetables then new hair tends to benefit a lot from this. Look out for fish oils and ‘good' fats like those in vegetables and seafood that will leave new hairs with a shiny coating. Also, drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration in hairs which mean the resulting new follicles comes out wiry and discoloured in extreme cases.
