Sunscreens are coming in for more criticism and there is much debate about getting our vital Vitamin D supplies going naturally by exposing ourselves to the sun for a limited time every day, if possible.
But shocking facts revealed by the EWG (Environbmental Working Group) show that some of the ingredients in the sunscreen such as Vitamin A derived ones such as retinol and retinyl palmitate actually may become carcinogenic when exposed to the sun!
This is shocking news and it is even more disturbing to discover that the FDA may have known about these dangers all along and never said anything to protect consumers.
It does not end there either as the EWG now states that there may be other carcinogenic ingredients in the classic sunscreen mix. In fact they are now warning about oxybenzone which have never actually passed proper safety tests. So, our sunscreens may be actually causing skin cancer rather than preventing it!
Now as regards the proper amount of sun exposure as to how to keep face skin healthy, we should bear in mind the following.
First we should not put on sunscreen before we go out in the sun. There is a theory that this will stop us getting the vital Vitamin D absorption that we need because they actually block the essential UVB rays.
Then we should have a half an hour's sun exposure without any protection.
If we want to keep healthy, we should be using a sunscreen with none of the above ingredients but rather those natural sunscreen ones which are :-
1. Go for zinc oxide, rather than titanium dioxide
2. Eat deeply colored red and green fruit and vegetables such as carrots and spinach
3. Best of all, wear proper protective clothing when under the intense sun.
These are just some of the ways on how to keep face skin healthy. The main thing is to avoid the cheap, nasty chemicals and to find a company which not only follows GMP practices but offers realistic guarantees. You can also ensure that all their ingredients are totally organic and skin friendly.
